РИФАМС / eng / FOR CORPORATIVE CLIENTS / FREIGHT INSURANCE

FREIGHT INSURANCE

Freight insurance is a type of property insurance, the purpose of which is to protect the property interests of cargo owners (consigners and / or consignees) in the event of losses incurred as a result of various incidents (loss occurrences) in the process of freight transportation.

The generally accepted conditions for cargo insurance are as follows:
“All risks” - under this condition damage, perishing or loss of all or part of the cargo, as well as all reasonably incurred costs of rescuing the cargo as a result of any events other than those expressly specified in the agreement or insurance rules as an exclusion are recognized as loss occurrences. Moreover, damages, expenses and general average contributions are subject to compensation.

“Subject to particular average” - under this condition, losses incurred as a result of damage or complete destruction of all or part of the cargo due to fire, lightning, storm, tornado, earthquake, volcanic eruption or other natural disasters, wrecking or collision of ships, aircraft and other means of transportation with each other, or crashing into fixed or moving (floating) objects, stranding, failure of bridges, explosion, damage to the ship by ice, soaking by sea water, as well as due to measures taken to rescue or extinguish the fire; due to the vehicle and the cargo going missing; from damage or complete destruction of all or part of the cargo due to accidents during loading, stowage, unloading of cargo and receipt of fuel; losses, expenses and general average contributions; all necessary and reasonably incurred expenses for the salvage of the cargo, as well as for the reduction of the loss and for the establishment of its amount, if such loss is compensated for under the terms of insurance, are indemnified.

“Free of particular average” - this condition implies compensation for losses incurred as a result of the complete destruction of all or part of the cargo, and in cases of damage, if such damage occurred as a result of the events indicated in the “Subject to particular average” clause only.

The insurance agreement establishes exclusions - those events in which the insurance company is not obliged to pay insurance compensation.
